Leadership Greater Syracuse is a non-profit organization that trains individuals to become leaders in the Greater Syracuse community. Since 1991, LGS has assembled diverse groups of citizens who share the interests of developing their leadership skills and improving their community. LGS classes represent a cross-section of business, industry, education, non-profit and government organizations. The leadership program not only teaches class members about the assets and problems of our community, but also about group behavior, transforming communities, and power. Class members forge strong bonds with each other and learn to approach challenges by creatively using their collective talents and experience.

Currently, three-hundred and forty Leadership Greater Syracuse graduates are actively involved in over 65 organizations within our community.
Whether it's serving on a board, holding an elected position, or mentoring a child, our graduates are making an impact on our community.

Participating Organizations

Employers and community organizations, who sponsor an individual, recognize that a healthy, economically vibrant community depends on the quality of its leadership. These organizations support the program in three ways. They excuse their employee from work one day a month for ten months to take part in the leadership training program, they pay the individual's tuition and many participate as presenters on program days.

E. Craig Heim, Former President, United Way of CNY, spoke about the importance of LGS to the community: "We create the future of our community by the decisions and actions we take today. Wise decision making and productive leadership needs to be nurtured and developed. As a new generation of leadership emerges, our community is fortunate to have Leadership Greater Syracuse as an effective vehicle to develop and nurture our leaders of tomorrow."
